Music Most - just not that hard stuff.
Movies I love SciFi, romantic comedies, drama and scary movies but no blood and gore (like in the old days).
TV SciFi - Dead Zone, 4400, Stargate, Jericho. I wish more people like SciFi - they are always canceling my shows. Oh yeah, Grey's Anatomy and House.
Books Love all the stuff by Esther & Jerry Hicks
Likes A cup a' Joe and an Abraham book on a nice afternoon on the patio at Starbucks. A quiet dinner and a really good Martini. Meeting new people, doing new things, talking to like minded people. Learning and learning some more.
Dislikes Boredom #1... can't stand it. Negativity, traffic. As long as I'm not bored I don't dislike much. (or maybe I just can't think what it is right now)
Hobbies Not a lot of hobbies, a little bit of scrapbooking, I think my hobby is just trying to stay entertained. I like to do meetups of different types that cultivate a positive life.
Vices I just don't walk my dog enough.. poor thing. It's so hot in Florida right now. But I play Frisbee with him. oh yea, I am opinionated, but I'm getting over that.
Virtues I like this part.. I just love people and animals, I am sweet and kind hearted, love to help - my friends call me Dr. Phil and that was before I was a hypnotist.
Heroes My hero is my Mom (who has passed)... a shining example to me of what a woman can do when she believes she can, no matter what she starts with.

Article on Hypnosis study from Natl Cancer Society

    Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 03:54 PM [General]

I found this article on Google News today and knew you all would be interested. I'm sure you can find lots of ways to use this. I've already printed it out.

Some excerpts from an article today on ABC news. Find the entire article here: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/PainManagement/story?id=3533002&page=1

--This study was published Tuesday in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

--Researchers at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York showed that a 15-minute hypnosis session reduced side effects including pain, nausea and emotional distress in patients undergoing breast cancer operations.

--"If this were a drug, it would be very successful," said lead study author Guy Montgomery, director of the Integrative Behavioral Medicine Program at Mount. Sinai School of Medicine.

--After their surgeries, the women who had hypnosis experienced less pain, nausea, fatigue, discomfort and emotional upset than their counterparts — and these differences were substantial, the study's authors reported. Not only did hypnosis reduce the side effects from surgery, but it also did this while reducing the amount of anesthesia used during the surgery. Additionally, the researchers showed that hypnosis decreased the amount of time spent in the operating room by almost 11 minutes, leading to an overall cost savings of about $770 per patient.

--In addition to being effective, hypnosis may also prove to be a versatile tool. The benefits of hypnosis have been shown in previous research to extend to other procedures as well, including gynecological surgery and coronary artery bypass.

--"This could become part of standard care," he said. However, he added, "it's not a panacea for everything, but rather a tool in the toolbox that we can use to address specific problems."

    From Bad to Great!

    Friday, June 29, 2007, 04:16 PM [General]

Wow! I don't know where to start! I just had the worst day and the best day! You never know what you're going to get. Today was my code inspection (needed for my biz license). They just give you a time between 9 and 4. But you can call in the morning and speak to the inspector and get a closer time. Now my office is pretty quiet. Nobody is really there much. I don't want to sit there all day with this nice list of things I need to do instead. But when I call, no answer and no call back. I call and call but end up going in by 9:00. No breakfast! And I'm hungry. Finally get hold of someone at Code Enforcement and it turns out the guy's number they gave me is off today. hmmmm... frustration. But I am scheduled and they put me through to someone else who says everyone's in a meeting so I can safely go get breakfast without missing them. So I do. Thank God, I was so hungry.

Back in the office, I think he was going to have someone call me but after we hung up I wasn't sure. So I wait. I did bring some things to do - hypnosis books to study - hmmm.. maybe I'll practice some self hypnosis for confidence - I do that - good stuff. I feel pretty good about that. Read some more. Walk around the office. Play a game on my phone. Read the whole Newsweek mag I brought. Hours pass... bored and hungry again. Ahh! the door - he's here. I go out and introduce myself and ask him if he wants to see the place and after walking him back I am starting to get a weird vibe because even though I'm talking about looking around the office I'm not getting the right feedback and finally he says - well, I was here to see Kelly... great - he's a client. of my associate. a little embarrassing  but we are laughing now.

So he says, "are you the hypnotist" and I say yep that's me. He asks if I can help him with his golf game. (See my blog from yesterday) and we proceed to talk about that. This is where it gets good. He tells me a little about his issue and I realize even though I know nothing about golf that this probably won't be that hard. He's just nervous when he does this certain shot and can't remember what he planned to do when it's time. Then he asks me how much I charge - This is the first time I get to answer that question. Everyone knows it's a little tough figuring out what to charge and a lot of consideration has gone into me figuring this out - so good or bad I have an answer. So I tell him $125 for the first session and $99 for each session after that, understanding that it might take multiple sessions. And get this----- he says's---- "okay, that's reasonable".... Wow! That's what I was thinking... just Wow! He takes my card and says he will call me in two weeks- because I should have my business license by then.. This day just gets better. I'm feeling pretty good : )

So now everyone is gone and I am back to waiting and trying to entertain myself. The phone rings at 2:30 and it's the Code Enforcement guy wanting to know when I'll be there... frustration as I tell him "I've been here all day". So he says, "I'm sorry if I'd known I would have been there this morning" (What can you do? just be nice and say well I'm here now) So he makes it there in the next half hour. Comes in and says I just need your paperwork to sign, that's all. But you know, I'm just glad it's fast. Plus I am starving!

This is the best part. I decide that I am going to just run around the corner and have a sub from Jersey Mikes. I get there, park my car and say hello to the older black man with the full grey beard sitting outside having his lunch by himself. It's beautiful out and breezy where the tables are and so I take my sandwich out and sit at the other outside table.  He strikes up a conversation and we must have talked for 2 hours. I'm not sure why but it was just the best conversation. We talked about local politics, children, teenagers, marriage (he's been married 41 years) parents, tough times and it was just great. It was a very uplifting experience. I don't know why but he said the thinks God sent me there today. I left there feeling joy and peace like I haven't felt in a while and I'm not even sure why.

So what's the moral of this story ... you never know what your day may bring .. no matter how it starts there may be something really good in the middle or in the end.

Thanks for your best wishes, but the doctor said I didn't need the surgery right now anyways, so all my "getting loaded for bear" was pre-empted.

One thing though, it did prove that hypnosis works in a different way, because I've been using self-hypnosis to program health back into the area, and get the body to do what it was supposed to be doing all along. So the surgery is currently only elective, and he advised that we take a "wait and see" attitude presently. Great news!!!

    Cheers!
