I found this article on Google News today and knew you all would be interested. I'm sure you can find lots of ways to use this. I've already printed it out.
--This study was published Tuesday in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
--Researchers at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York showed
that a 15-minute hypnosis session reduced side effects including pain,
nausea and emotional distress in patients undergoing breast cancer
operations.
--"If this were a drug, it would be very successful," said lead study
author Guy Montgomery, director of the Integrative Behavioral Medicine
Program at Mount. Sinai School of Medicine.
--After their surgeries, the women who had hypnosis experienced less
pain, nausea, fatigue, discomfort and emotional upset than their
counterparts — and these differences were substantial, the study's
authors reported. Not only did hypnosis reduce the side effects from surgery, but it also
did this while reducing the amount of anesthesia used during the
surgery. Additionally, the researchers showed that hypnosis decreased
the amount of time spent in the operating room by almost 11 minutes,
leading to an overall cost savings of about $770 per patient.
--In addition to being effective, hypnosis may also prove to be a
versatile tool. The benefits of hypnosis have been shown in previous
research to extend to other procedures as well, including gynecological
surgery and coronary artery bypass.
--"This could become part of standard care," he said. However, he added,
"it's not a panacea for everything, but rather a tool in the toolbox
that we can use to address specific problems."
Wow! I don't know where to start! I just had the worst day and the best day! You never know what you're going to get. Today was my code inspection (needed for my biz license). They just give you a time between 9 and 4. But you can call in the morning and speak to the inspector and get a closer time. Now my office is pretty quiet. Nobody is really there much. I don't want to sit there all day with this nice list of things I need to do instead. But when I call, no answer and no call back. I call and call but end up going in by 9:00. No breakfast! And I'm hungry. Finally get hold of someone at Code Enforcement and it turns out the guy's number they gave me is off today. hmmmm... frustration. But I am scheduled and they put me through to someone else who says everyone's in a meeting so I can safely go get breakfast without missing them. So I do. Thank God, I was so hungry.
Back in the office, I think he was going to have someone call me but after we hung up I wasn't sure. So I wait. I did bring some things to do - hypnosis books to study - hmmm.. maybe I'll practice some self hypnosis for confidence - I do that - good stuff. I feel pretty good about that. Read some more. Walk around the office. Play a game on my phone. Read the whole Newsweek mag I brought. Hours pass... bored and hungry again. Ahh! the door - he's here. I go out and introduce myself and ask him if he wants to see the place and after walking him back I am starting to get a weird vibe because even though I'm talking about looking around the office I'm not getting the right feedback and finally he says - well, I was here to see Kelly... great - he's a client. of my associate. a little embarrassing but we are laughing now.
So he says, "are you the hypnotist" and I say yep that's me. He asks if I can help him with his golf game. (See my blog from yesterday) and we proceed to talk about that. This is where it gets good. He tells me a little about his issue and I realize even though I know nothing about golf that this probably won't be that hard. He's just nervous when he does this certain shot and can't remember what he planned to do when it's time. Then he asks me how much I charge - This is the first time I get to answer that question. Everyone knows it's a little tough figuring out what to charge and a lot of consideration has gone into me figuring this out - so good or bad I have an answer. So I tell him $125 for the first session and $99 for each session after that, understanding that it might take multiple sessions. And get this----- he says's---- "okay, that's reasonable".... Wow! That's what I was thinking... just Wow! He takes my card and says he will call me in two weeks- because I should have my business license by then.. This day just gets better. I'm feeling pretty good : )
So now everyone is gone and I am back to waiting and trying to entertain myself. The phone rings at 2:30 and it's the Code Enforcement guy wanting to know when I'll be there... frustration as I tell him "I've been here all day". So he says, "I'm sorry if I'd known I would have been there this morning" (What can you do? just be nice and say well I'm here now) So he makes it there in the next half hour. Comes in and says I just need your paperwork to sign, that's all. But you know, I'm just glad it's fast. Plus I am starving!
This is the best part. I decide that I am going to just run around the corner and have a sub from Jersey Mikes. I get there, park my car and say hello to the older black man with the full grey beard sitting outside having his lunch by himself. It's beautiful out and breezy where the tables are and so I take my sandwich out and sit at the other outside table. He strikes up a conversation and we must have talked for 2 hours. I'm not sure why but it was just the best conversation. We talked about local politics, children, teenagers, marriage (he's been married 41 years) parents, tough times and it was just great. It was a very uplifting experience. I don't know why but he said the thinks God sent me there today. I left there feeling joy and peace like I haven't felt in a while and I'm not even sure why.
So what's the moral of this story ... you never know what your day may bring .. no matter how it starts there may be something really good in the middle or in the end.
In order to allow myself the time I need to be a hypnotist, I am feeling the need to outsource some of my web site work. I am a do it your self type person but I am realizing that my time would be better spent preparing to open my business and after that doing what I want to do the most which is hypnotize and all that great stuff that goes with it.
So if anyone knows of a company or a person who can work within Microsoft Web Expression please forward their contact information to me. I don't need anyone to actually design a site. I have done the basic design myself. I need someone who can tweak it for me and who can finish adding the filler and make updates as I have more to add to it.
Right now it's pretty simple but it might get a little more complicated later as I expand and become more successful. YEA!
It's been a fun week meeting and greeting and getting to know some of you fellow hypnotists. I'm excited - I sent in my NGH Convention Registration today! Finally, decided on which seminars and classes to attend. How overwhelming is that? So much to pick from. Finally whittled it down to the ones I want the most. I am so looking forward to the Convention. Hope I get to meet face to face with some of you that I am getting to know here.
So, it's Friday night, time to leave the cocoon of my office and let go and hang out a little and have some fun. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I plan to.
Ah, it's the end of my workday here at the computer. Mixing up working on my already established internet business and getting up to speed with my new hypnosis business.
I am so enjoying this new site. If you are a newbie like me and just trying to get started, stop by and check out the Newbie Assist group. We've got some great conversations going on. Tom Nicoli is handing out some great free advice and pumping us up (well me for sure). And if you are experienced and want to share you knowledge, we are eager little birds with our mouths open for your juicy worms. The more the merrier...
